Most people don’t know they can change their voice, the voice they were born with.
If your shoulders move up and chest moves out when you take a deep breath in, you have the potential to change your voice, because you are not using your diaphragm properly. Diaphragm is the muscle in between your chest and abdomen that helps you breathe properly. When you make your diaphragm work properly, you can change your voice.
If your throat hurts and becomes sore when you talk for long hours, you have the potential to change your voice, because you are not fully utilising your cavities (yes, there are cavities in your body ;-)). Once you can make all the cavities work for your voice projection, you’ll be able to speak for as long as you want without ever worrying about your throat.
A recent client of mine has changed her voice. The change was not only in her voice, but in the way she feels about herself. Hear what she said:
“Before working with Cynthia, I was facing difficulties in sustaining my voice over a few hours, which was high-pitched and sharp. I was frustrated as listeners could not understand my messages, as if my voice was putting them off and causing them to lose their focus. At the end of a day, my throat usually hurts from the effort to speak loudly and my voice turned coarse. I wanted to learn how to produce an attractive voice, just like a deejay. The type which turns heads and captures your attention.
During the coaching sessions with Cynthia, I’ve learned I need to improve on my breathing and also relax my body in order to produce a full and resonant voice. Voice production should be an effortless process as well.
I spoke to a group of 400 students recently. I felt and saw the difference my voice had made. Audience was focused on me; they looked up and followed my presentation. They were responsive and engaged as I spoke to them. My message to them was crystal clear. I felt confident and there was no tension in my body. I could hear my voice reverberating in the hall.
At the last session when I watched my before & after videos, I was so surprised by the big change in my voice. It had happened gradually and I did not even notice it until I compared. The exercises Cynthia taught me were so effective. My voice has deepened by probably 1/3 of an octave, and more resonant. Not to mention, I feel more confident and aware that I need to relax my body, resulting in an overall improvement in my mindset.”
And, watch her transformation.
