If you spend a lot of time speaking over the phone at work, like many of my clients, you would know how important the role your voice plays. Some researches said, over the phone 97% of the communication depends on your voice. If your voice lacks clarity and people at the other end have difficulty understanding you, you’ll lose them in the very beginning. If your voice does not project confidence or credibility, your message won’t get across.
Hi, in this video, you are going to learn the 3 tips that will help you project a clear, confident and credible voice.
1. Posture
Did you notice how you sit while talking on the phone? Most likely, like this. Or this. Both types of the posture close up the voice projection channel and prevent you from projecting a clear voice.
So the first point is to pay attention to your posture.
Our voice is produced in the body and by the body. Make sure your posture is open and free. Instead of doing this and this, do this and this.
2. Inhale
Over the phone, a lot of people just speak, speak and speak, until they find there’s no more air, but to finish that sentence, they Squeeze out sound at the end, which makes them sound tired, low energy, or lack of confidence. To prevent all that from happening, make sure before you speak, inhale first and then speak.
3. Exhale
Ever caught yourself speak like this,”hi, good morning, Cynthia speaking. Today we are going to discuss ….” What’s wrong with it? It’s the result of holding your breath while you speak. When you hold your breath, your clarity sacrifices and your confidence is affected.
When we speak, we should exhale, like this, “hi, …”
To project a clear and confident voice, practice these 3 tips. Did you notice they happen to make a P.I.E.?
