Many clients told me, “I’m comfortable when I speak on a one-to-one basis. But I get nervous when I speak to groups.”
Who doesn’t get nervous in public speaking?
Speaking in front a group can stir the terror of being judged and humiliated, while it may not happen when speaking to one person. If you are terrified with speaking in front of groups, it only means that you are human.
In my professional life, I’ve only met two people who said that they were never nervous. It turned out in our conversations later on that they never cared about the audience.
No matter how seasoned a speaker or an actor is, if they ever care about their audiences, they get nervous. I heard a story about a very established actor, I forgot his name, at his 80s, he still got nervous whenever he performed in his Broadway shows. That’s professionalism.
If you don’t even care about the person or persons you are speaking to, you are not professional.
