Does Hillary Clinton need to change her voice?

I’ve been in the States this week and was asked frequently to comment on Hillary Clinton’s voice.

Have you heard Hillary speaking, be it on television or youtube? Were you engaged and stayed till the end of her speeches, provided that you are in a neutral position, not for or against her?

A female participant asked if it was because Hillary is a woman and people are more critical about her and her voice.

One friend commented that he could never bypass the initial stage of her speeches. Her shrill voice has dimmed her message.

I would say, first, there were double standards. This has been discussed by many and I’ll not elaborate on that. Second, her voice indeed is high-pitched, harsh and sharp.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a man or woman. I have heard men with high-pitched, harsh and sharp voices. What matters is that you want to understand that a high-pitched voice does not project confidence or authority. On the contrary, it annoys your listeners because it has a direct physical impact on them. You may have experienced extreme discomfort in your ears or goose bumps. A high-pitched voice undermines your capability and your message.

Have you listened to your voice in recording? What do you think of your voice? Does it make people relax and receptive, or it make people annoyed and closed up to you?
