Change Your Soft Voice

A lot of my clients, especially ladies, have a very soft voice. It can be very discouraging when people often ask you to repeat yourself and it affects your confidence level.

One of my clients said, “Every time when I speak with even just a few members, they all lean in. And I was thinking, ‘What’s happening here? Anything wrong’?”

In professional settings, if I speak in this soft voice, what impression will you have on me? Tired, intimidated, not sure? Definitely not positive.

There are 2 reasons for your soft voice. No. 1, your breath is shallow;  No. 2, it is soley powered from your throat.

If you can solve these 2 problems, you’ll have a much stronger voice without using more effort.

Have you ever thought about how your voice is produced? That’s right, from the vibration on your vocal cords. If you want to have a bigger volume, the first step is, you need to have more vibrations.

How do you get more vibrations? The vibrations on your vocal cords are pumped by your breath. If you want to have a stronger voice, you need to have a deeper breath and then use that breath to support your voice projection.

The problem is most people are not breathing properly. And that’s the reason no matter how hard you try using more breath, your voice still cannot project farther. So start with your breath.

One exercise you can try is, to lie on your bed, relax and breathe. When you see stomach area is moving up and down, that is the proper way of breathing. Try it and let me know how it goes.
