Looking back, this is the 8th year that I’m in business! I had never dreamed that I would be able to support professionals from 38 countries across 5 continents. I feel grateful and privileged.
8 years ago, before I left the last company I worked for, I had one client in my pipeline and that was it. I hadn’t known how to fill my practice but I knew I just wanted to leave the corporate world and start on my own. So, without a plan, I left my job.
Half a year later, my business was drying up. I was in panic. One evening at my sister’s house, I was in tears and telling her about my frustrations and fears. My sister said, “If this is something that you want, find a plan. You know the saying, ‘If you don’t plan, you plan to fail.’ If you don’t have enough money left, I’ll lend you.”
“If you don’t plan, you plan to fail.” It was the exact reason that my business was drying up. I hadn’t had a plan in place!
I started to make plans for my business. I was good at what I did for my clients, but I knew if I wanted to make progress for my business, I needed to work with a business coach, someone who could show me the way, instead of me wasting time through more years of trial and error.
In the 2nd year, I started to fill my practice. I also started to conduct training workshops and speaking engagements across Asia, then more countries and more continents. As the saying goes, the rest is history.
“If you don’t plan, you plan to fail.” If you don’t have a goal, you will be the ship that sails with no destination. If you don’t have a sailing route planned, you’ll end up wandering on the sea. If you don’t calculate the foreseeable risks when the thunderstorms hit, you’ll not survive in the sea.
