Here are the 2 biggest mistakes I’ve heard people talking about voice.
-
Weird voice exercises will prevent you from ever losing your voice
Last week, I was listening to a show and happened to hear someone talking about voice. The guest on the show said, “Before you speak in front of a group, do a few voice drills will help you pump the blood into your vocal cords so you can speak without losing your voice.”
If you would listen to that advice, hoping that you will never lose your voice, good luck.
Vocal cords are pale in color because there is NO blood circulating there! Not only will a few weird voice exercises not help you manage your nervousness, but also your voice will still get strained if you are not projecting your voice properly, that is to breathe properly and develop resonance in your body to eliminate the strain on your vocal cords.

You can purposely lower your voice to project authority
This is another mistake I’ve heard many people, including some “experts” saying. This is the wrong way of using your voice. This is the wrong way of projecting your authority. And this is the worst advice you can receive about your voice.
Authority is not achieved by manipulating your voice. An authoritative voice is achieved by developing your full voice. A full voice helps you achieve not just on voice, but the way you feel about your confidence. A full voice helps you feel elevated in both your voice and your confidence level. A full voice helps you speak with authenticity and authority.
