1. Voice projection does not need effort.
This is the most understood fact by most people. In all my workshops and coaching sessions, whenever I mentioned it, no one would not be surprised.
Most people would think that, especially when speaking to a large group, you have to exert a lot of effort in voice projection in order to be heard.
The face is, voice projection is a relaxation process. It is to let go, letting go of the breath. When we breathe out, it is releasing all the tension that’s stored in the body and releasing all the toxins in the body. When you start to understand that voice projection is a process of letting go, you would love to speak!
No one speaks when they breathe in. The problem that prevents some people from feeling the process of letting go in voice projection is that they hold their breath while speaking. This creates tension in your body and will never give you the feeling of letting go and relaxation. This will result in a voice that sounds unclear and couldn’t project. When you are holding your breath while speaking, you are not projecting.
Because of the fact that voice projection doesn’t not need effort, you would not feel tired on no matter how long you would speak for.
2. Your voice pitch can be changed
Most people think that working on your voice is to work on the tonality of your voice to make it sound more interesting and engaging. That’s why most people always think that only people who do presentations would need voice training.
That’s a wrong assumption and closes the door for you to understanding and discovering the under-estimated power in your voice.
When we say that you can change your voice, we are referring to the quality and the texture of your voice. For example, if your voice is too high-pitched, which pushes people away, you can develop a deeper voice without purposely lowering your voice. Even if your voice is too low, you can make it higher without mimicking Micky Mouse.
Margaret Thatcher is known for developing a deeper voice that was almost half an octave lower than her original screechy voice. This had helped her project more authority as a female leader. Even if you are just a professional, you can still change your pitch.
Pitch is only one shade of your voice range. There are far more shades in your voice that you can develop and be amazed by the power it’ll bring to you, the power to make your confidence sore and the power to enhance your influence.
The objective is to develop a full voice, a voice that’s projected using your full body. Only by doing this, would you feel the transformational power of your voice.
3. Your voice is a healing tool
The human voice is the ultimate healing instrument. Think about overtone chanting in Central Asia. It has a therapeutic effect on the human body. Singing, chanting and laughing are ways of healing the body through voice. No wonder we feel more relaxed and elated when we do either of them.
Accumulated tension and stress have made your body out of balance and alignment, and your voice restricted and closed. Laurel Elizabeth Keys, one of the pioneers in using human voice for healing, said, “If a person’s voice is whiny and has a sucking in or gasping sound, the person has a negative health condition and is often so discouraged or hopeless that self pity becomes the positive polarity (instead of health), and no healing can be effected until the person reverses his tonal pattern.”
Our body has a resonant frequency. When it’s healthy, it has a natural vibrational frequency. When it’s unhealthy and out of alignment, we can use sound frequencies to bring it back to alignment and into a state of harmony and health, hence avoiding the need for drugs or surgery. When you work on your voice and develop the full resonance, it’ll help you optimize your frequency and restore harmony.
