What do Yoga & Voice Projection have in common?

The process of developing your voice and the process of practicing yoga share many common principles.

One is that both focus on working on the body to change the mind. Yoga practice is to align your body to create the peace of mind. Voice development is to create an open and relaxing body to make your best voice come out with the least effort. If you are still working on varying your tones, you will never understand the power of your voice.

Two is that both are like nurturing a plant. We don’t pull the plant out to make it grow fast. Instead, we create the best environment for the plant to grow, e.g. work on the soil, give it enough water and sunshine, etc. When the conditions are nurturing, the plant will grow faster. Many of my clients try to get a deep voice by purposely lowering the voice. You get a low voice but you also start to damage your vocal cords. Instead, we nurture the body and make it open and fully engaged in voice projection. Your voice will be full, deep and rich naturally, where it sounds more confident and conveys more impact.

Nurture the environment and your plant will grow.
